Do we need to get the passport renewed before it is expiring?
Just get it renewed while you are in US.
Its a one day affair to get your passport renewed(in person). You submit all your docs in the morning and pick it up in the evening.

Hello Guys,
I have been working with my current employer for last 3 years as Software engineer and filed for PERM last October (18th Oct 2007). My six year H1-B limit expires in January 2010.
Now I'm getting an opportunity to move into Technical Program Management internally (within the same company).
I have couple of questions based on the above scenario
1. Is it safe to take the new opportunity since I have to start over my PERM process (given the backlog in Atlanta center) and also given the amount of time left in my H1-B (approx 15 months left)?
2. If I file a new PERM application now, can I use the experience that I gained in this company as part of the app OR should I use only my previous employer's experience (which was 3-4 years ago and has little relation with what I might do in program management) for the PERM app?

I had filed for H1-B extension in December. I work for a TARP company. With the new restrictions on hiring H1-B workers in TARP firms, is this likely to affect my extension filing, especially since my employer had layoffs recently?

To me, it means that they will issue an RFE to ask you about the new (self-employed) job and description of your job duties in the new job, compensation etc. And they should match with original LC.
I have a personal belief that this is a complicated thing in itself and depends largely on the job title, job descriptions and your qualifications mentioned on LC. It would be a good idea to discuss the specifics with a competent attorney before taking any step that might lead you to a new greencard from scratch. Good Luck.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has launched its newly re-designed Web site (http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis). Although the Web site update was scheduled to be introduced September 22, 2009, attorney Eugenia Ponce visited the site Monday and has this report:
The updated Web site is organized according to categories.The categories are displayed as Topics, Forms, Resources, Laws, News, and About Us. The topics are categorized as follows: Adoption, Permanent Residence, Humanitarian, Citizenship, Members of the Military and Their Family, Family, Visit the U.S., Working in the U.S, and Genealogy. After clicking on a specific topic, I was provided helpful information and even more additional information was available through the links on the left of the screen.The advantage of categorizing the information by topic is that individuals are now able to familiarize themselves with the process from start to finish. There are other helpful links and tools within each specific topic.
Another key feature to the Web site is that there is a “where to start” link. Before, individuals could navigate throughout the Web site not knowing where to even begin their search on a narrow issue. Now, the “where to start link” will allow individuals to begin their immigration search by narrowing it down to their specific issue. For instance, there is a scroll-down available for individuals under the “where to start” link. I saw three LUDs on 485 applications after FP. Last as latest as August 23rd. No recent LUD on EAD or AP yet.
What should I expect?

I am going to apply for my H1 renewal. I have my I-140 approved and I-485 application pending from Aug 2007. Additionally, being from India, my visa number is retrogressed.
I got my first 3 year H1 extention from 2006-2009. Now I am appllying for my next 3 years H1 extention. However, I am seeing USCIS asking for client letter and copy of contract. Additionally, one employee of my company got renewal for 3 months only, since his project was getting over in 3 months.
My company gets Purchase Orders for 1 year duration only from my client, but I have a intent to renewal for up to 3 years. I am about to enter into my 2nd year of contract.
I am working with my lawyer to present my case the best way to ensure that we get a renewal of 3 years. Here is what my lawyer recently stated

This arises when USCIS issues a request for evidence specifically asking for such items as contracts and work orders. My I-485/I-140 were filed on Jul 2, 2008 (I-140 approved in 9/2007). I possess an EAD valid till Sep 2010 and AP valid till Aug 2009. I lost my job (H1B) in late January. I have a family emergency compelling me to travel to India for a week (starting Saturday next week 04/04/2009). Will there be any problem in terms of using my AP to re-enter the U.S? An early reply would be appreciated. Thank You very much in advance.
P.S: I do not have a job yet.

Hi,
we are take a cruise to Alaska this summer, on our way back the ship docks in Victoria, British Columbia for a day.
I am currently on AP, which I plan to use for re-entry into the US. Haven't renewed my H1 visa.
I understand that I need to apply for a Canadian Visitor's Visa.
there are a list of documents that I need to send to the consulate, including my passport and US Visa documents (ofcourse). Since my H1 visa is no longer valid, I was wondering if I need to send my AP document (or would a copy be sufficient)?? Do i need to prepare a separate application with supporting documents for my wife, or can I just include her in my application?
All this seems like to much of a hassle :mad:, considering that it's just a few hours in Canada itself, not to mention it's going to put me back by a couple of hundred $$ atleast.

She will get her EAD even if your priority date retrogresses in the next visa bulletin.
As far as I know, you don't neccessarily need to file EAD with your I-485. Once your I-485 is pending, you can file EAD anytime after that(irrespective of PD movement) but its always better to file them together.

I don't know about legal risks but health-wise that sounds quite risky.
I can't believe to what extent some people will go to earn money!
Boss, don't make yourself a guinea pig. No amount of money is worth it.
If every one thinks like you, how in the world would drugs be developed to cure the diseases? :D :) Note that before any drugs gets to the stage of human subjects research, it would have completed several trials to ensure that its safe. Adverse events may happen during the trial but in recent studies, not many.
Generally, there will be an orientation and screening before enrollments, you will get all the information at that stage and you may choose not to enroll or if you have any particular condition identified during screening, you will not even be enrolled.
Risks are very minimum. Good luck.
